Bertrand joined LEGIS and Partners in October 2017 after a 3-year spell in Madagascar where he was manager and subsequently partner in the firm Lexel Juridique & Fiscal, a leading business and tax law firm in Madagascar.

He has built a strong expertise in business law in Madagascar with a particular focus on the negotiation and drafting of power purchase agreements, Energy, Construction and Procurement Agreements (EPC) and Operations and Maintenance Agreements (O&M). Bertrand also advised international clients on numerous infrastructure projects in Madagascar, notably the implementation of the scaling solar project in Madagascar under the aegis of the International Financial Corporation (IFC) as well as the construction of the new international airports and road infrastructures

He acquired experience in the field of Merger & Acquisition by spearheading several acquisition of companies operating in the mining, banking, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, hospitality and agricultural sector.

His experience spans over the conduct of legal and tax due diligence to the drafting and closing of the acquisition agreements (share purchase agreement, seller’s warranty on contingent liabilities, shareholders agreement).

Prior to Lexel Juridique & Fiscal Bertrand worked for 3 years as legal manager of a Mauritian conglomerate where he was involved in the drafting and negotiating of franchise contracts, commercial leases and on issues related to employment law.

Since joining LEGIS, Bertrand has advised sponsors and commercial lenders on structuring investments in Madagascar and Africa from the Mauritian International Financial Center. His interventions are mainly focused on project finance transactions in the energy sector notably in the drafting of power purchase agreements, Energy, Construction and Procurement Agreements (EPC) and Operations and Maintenance Agreements (O&M), the creation and enforcement of securities (pledge) over shares and bank accounts.
