Barrister – Junior Associate

Sulaksmi joined LEGIS and Partners in January 2024. She is involved in various sectors including employment, corporate, commercial and compliance sectors. She intervenes mainly on employment law matters, involving both local and international clients, and assists in the drafting and reviewing of numerous contracts (contracts of employment, lease agreements, shareholder agreements, constitutions, etc.) in both English and French.

Sulaksmi began her professional career in the compliance department at Vistra (Mauritius) Limited in 2019. In the course of her previous employment, she provided an in-house compliance service that effectively supported the company’s business areas, i.e., carry out compliance reviews and risk audits for Global Business entities. She was involved in altering and monitoring compliance practices. She helped ensure that the companies are following the set of regulations for their industries and followed up on remediation actions with the Compliance and Corporate team and direct clients.

She was called to the Mauritian Bar in 2022 following which she joined a reputed Mauritian Law Chambers. She was actively engaged in litigation and her experience encompasses civil, employment, commercial, family, property and criminal law. She has regularly appeared before the Courts and Tribunals of Mauritius, and the Mediation Division of the Supreme Court as she is also an accredited civil-commercial Mediator at ADR ODR International, UK.
